Rocky Mountain Moggers 2000 Gathering
Owens Lake, Wyoming, USA - June 9th - 11th, 2000
Trip report
Trip report - Page 4:
On Sunday, we headed out to find some other trails.
One of them went through a stand of trees. There was
a fresh tree-fall across the road, and Duane managed to get the front axle
over it, but the rear tires just wouldn't climb it.
Duane waits for the woodsmen to clear the way.
We finally cut the fallen tree out from under the Mog. Bob N. provided the saw.
After we cleared the tree out of the way, and Duane made it through, Bob N's Expedition
came through the trees on the other trail. It looked easier that way...
but he got stuck in the soft mud. We tried to pull him out with Duane's Radio truck, but it
just couldn't budge the 13,000 pound Expedition. Bob then used his winch, and that did the trick.
Bob R takes the tough route. There was a tree root that stuck up out of this set of wheel tracks,
and it made it very difficult to get through.
Kent took the easier route, and mananged to make it
past the soft mud that Bob N got stuck in.
The tree root stopped Bob R (as well as mine),
and both of us needed a strap to get through. A mile up the road from here, Bob R's Moglite developed clutch
problems, and we decided to turn around and go back the way we came.
I thought I would try the other trail back through these trees, since Kent had made it through.
Unfortunately, my rear wheel dropped right into the hole that Bob N had left when he was stuck,
and I was stuck again.
This time, Kent provided the pull, and after 4 or 5 tugs, the VLF came out of the hole.
I picked up a little bit of debris. There's the high-water mark from the deep mud hole
yesterday, on the battery box and wheel chock, and now the mud and sticks.
The sticks didn't seem to help traction at all...
Thanks to Dana & Kay Stickley and Kent Drummond for organizing this year's gathering.
Thanks to Dana and Kay for some of the photo's on these pages, and also the delicious lunch,
and again, thanks to Dana Stickley for creating the wonderful t-shirts and stickers!
Thanks also go to Robert and Charlie for providing the warm and comfortable camp tent that
many of us used for a friendly place to gather and talk.
Let's do it again next year!
