April 17th, 2000 - Pritchett Canyon, Moab, Utah, USA
Trip report - page 4:
After a couple of un-named obstacles, we came to the
Rock Pile. Kai opted to take a side route, harder to get to, and still a very
difficult climb.
Rob also took the side route.
and Bill C., too. Once we got some trucks up on the top,
it was easier to give assistance to those trucks that needed it to get up the Rock Pile.
Dan tried the Rock Pile, but the rocks keep slipping out of the way,
and he needed a tug.
John managed to power up the step.
The Suzuki's lockers were just about done for at this point, and Chuck
needed a strap to get up the rocks.
Kent makes his run up the pile. I didn't get a photo of
it, but Bill G.'s Mog was one of the few that made it over the Rock Pile on it's own.
My VLF didn't make it. The rocks kept pushing out of the way, and I'm
sure the bald tires didn't help, either.
Bob almost made the side route on his own.
On the last hill up to this saddle, Yellow Hill, I helped provide some
comic relief. Just as the VLF bouced up over a ledge, my back door popped
open, and I dumped half of the stuff in the back of my truck out on the trail,
my water jug, my cooler, chains. But, no harm was done.
From here on out, the road got better and better.
and the scenery was really something. Near the end of the road, we came
to some sand dunes, and we played there a while. We all headed back into town, and then
we took over a large section of a pizza place in Moab, and had great pizza.
