This was my first visit to the Moab Easter Jeep Safari. Since my Unimog had a broken tranny, I joined Bob Ragain for a trail ride. He had signed up for one of the organized trail rides. The rest of the group was mostly Jeeps. The first obstacle was a tall sand hill. There was much talk on the CB about how the Unimog would have to use the sneak around the hill because it would never make it up. The trip leader was driving a fairly stock Cherokee, with the exception of having a rear diff locker. He ended up backing down the hill several times to help tow other Jeeps up the hill. Bob's radio truck had no difficulty with the hill.
Bob Ragain's Radio truck, climbing the first obstacle, a 400-foot sand hill. A number of Jeeps had to be towed up this hill. The Unimog just walked right up it, no trouble.
Traversing the rock shelves...
Crossing a wash...
Crossing a wash, and showing some of the Unimog articulation.
The last trial on this tour, a steep hill, with a shelf at the top.
As I was taping this hill-climb, I mentioned to the driver of the last Jeep in line that the Unimog made the Jeeps look pretty small. He said that it made them look pretty bad, too....
